Routing the transmission line

The extensive routing process includes evaluating large amounts of data and discussions with agencies and the public.

Who approved the route?

State utility authorities approved the transmission line’s final route after considering recommendations from all participating parties and landowners, complying with applicable laws and rules, and following a comprehensive process that includes public meetings and hearings.

  • On July 10, 2014, the North Dakota Public Service Commission issued a Findings of Facts, Conclusions of Law, and Order.
  • On August 22, 2014, the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission approved a Facility Permit and noticed a Final Decision and Order, Notice of Entry.

A general timeline outlining the basic steps of the routing process is below.
